Dryburgh Development ready for action

12/01/2023

The Biffa SWFL North gets underway this weekend, with Dryburgh Athletic Development opening their campaign at home to Glenrothes Strollers on Sunday.

This will be the start of condensed season, running from January to May, with the SWFL having four regional divisions. The leagues will then start again in August to coincide with the 2023/24 SWF Championship and League One season’s, creating a new pyramid in the women’s game.

For Dryburgh there have been a few changes since the end of last season. Callum Fyall takes over as Head Coach, with Scott Reilly and Mark Thomson making up the coaching staff.

Callum led the U18’s to the SWF South East/ East Kirsty Smith League title last season, with Mark alongside him, and several players from that squad will be part of this season’s Development team.

Scott was a part of the Development team’s coaching set up last season and will continue in his role. He has a wealth of experience from a number of years at the club, coaching the U17’s to League and League Cup success in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

The young Dryburgh squad will look to build on their respectable 5th place finish in 2022. They will face several familiar opponents from last season but also some new sides, including Sunday’s visitors Glenrothes Strollers. Other sides new to the Biffa SWFL North are Dyce, Huntly and Inverurie Locos, with existing SWFL sides Buchan, East Fife Dev, Forfar Farmington, Stonehaven and Westdyke making up the 10-team division.

Kick off on Sunday is 2:30pm at DISC, Mains Loan, Dundee. Come along and support the girls!
