Match report

Scottish Cup 3rd Round

BSC Glasgow Women 1 Dryburgh Athletic 5

Dryburgh stormed into the Scottish Cup 4th draw with an accomplished performance yesterday against League One side BSC Glasgow. The cold December wind meant a chilly game for players, coaches and spectators, and a heavy pitch also made for challenging conditions to play on.

‘Burgh were straight off the mark early doors with chances from Derrian Gollan and Clara Laing that were well saved in the first 15 minutes. However after more pressure, the breakthrough goal came after 19 minutes when a free kick from around 30 metres out was hammered into the roof of the net by Rachel Robbie.

After 25 minutes, some excellent pressing from Alma Codegoni down the right led to a cross over into the box which was met by Gollan to score, whilst fellow striker Laing scored an almost identical goal from a few metres out, with the assist coming from Robbie’s cross into the box, to make it 3-0 at half time.

The second half saw an early goal back for BSC from a bullet free kick from the edge of the box, however ‘Burgh soon restored their lead. A Tiegan Clark corner was nodded on to Chelsey Lownie, who made no mistake with a well placed lob into the roof of the net.

The final goal came after 75 minutes from Laing, who was again well placed in the box to connect with a cross whipped in from the right. The visitors had more half chances towards the end, but the dogged BSC defence stood firm and defended well.

Credit to both teams for playing in such tough conditions, and thanks to our hosts for the hospitality after the game.
