Dryburgh Athletic Girls U14’s welcomed Glasgow City Black's to a sunny Lochee Park on Saturday morning, to contest a quarter final tie in the U14s Scottish Youth Challenge Cup.
Dryburgh started the game shooting up the Lochee slope and started on the front foot with a quick attack up the right flank. The attack didn't come to anything though and ended up in the keepers hand.
For the next 20mins the game went back and forward, with Dryburgh attacks and also Glasgow looking to catch Dryburgh out with balls over the top of the defence. The Burgh defence and keeper appeared well switched on to this tactic though and thwarted any danger.
Madison Stewart then picked the ball up on the left flank and her pace left Glasgow struggling to catch her, she then cut into the Glasgow box and put Burgh 1-0 up.
Dryburgh then kept the pressure on Glasgow and got their rewards from Aayla O’Neill, who put her side into a comfortable 2-0 half time lead.
HT 2-0 Dryburgh
The second half started with Dryburgh maintaining the pressure on the visitors and quickly Aayla O’Neill grabbed her second of the game to put Dryburgh 3-0 up.
Dryburgh kept themselves on the front foot and Glasgow couldn't cope under the pressure. A Dryburgh corner crossed into the box bounced once or twice and then it was smashed home on the half volley by Libby Traynor putting the home team 4-0 up.
Five minutes later Dryburgh got a free kick around 30 yards from goal and up stepped Rebecca Lonie, striking the ball sweetly and putting Dryburgh 5-0 up.
Dryburgh kept most of the play in the Glasgow half and got another goal, Aayla O’Neill completing her Hat-trick and putting the game firmly out of reach for Glasgow, 6-0 Dryburgh.
Millie Garrick-Orr then made it 7-0 with some great footwork and danced her way into the box.
Dryburgh then must have switched off for a bit and Glasgow scored two goals late on taking the score to 7-2.
In the dying moments of the game, Abi Halliday rounded off the scoring to make it 8-2 Dryburgh with another cool finish.
This was a great advert for girls football, with the Dryburgh coaching team “very proud”, saying “the girls just keep getting better and better every week and now we’re into the semis of the Scottish Challenge Cup.”
Final score:
Dryburgh Athletic U14s 8-2 Glasgow City Black U14s
