Dryburgh Athletic Community Club are delighted to announce that our Ladies team have been accepted into the inaugural SWF Championship North, for the upcoming 2020 season.
This season will see a number of changes to the women’s game across Scotland, following lengthy talks between the clubs and the SWF. Central to this is a split between recreational and competitive football, that is hoped will help to grow and improve the game.
The club’s committee has worked tirelessly to meet the criteria required for entry into the newly formed Championships, and we were delighted that all the hard work has come to fruition. As a club we believe this shows that we are extremely ambitious, both on and off the pitch.
Since the Ladies team was formed in 2018 it has gone from strength to strength, reaching the SWFL2 Cup Final and finishing as runners-up in the SWFL2 North last season. We hope that given the platform they now have they will continue to improve and act as positive role models for our young players at the club.Along with the Championship side we will also run a second ladies side, competing in the SWFL North East League. This will provide players at our club with a fantastic opportunity to continue into Women’s football.
The fixtures will be announced later this week, with the opening fixture scheduled for Sunday 9th February.
