Dryburgh Women return home this weekend for no doubt yet another cracking match in this very competitive Barclay’s Scottish Women’s Championship season.
Our opponents on Sunday are Stenhousemuir Women, who we meet in the league for the first time following their promotion from League One last season. They have had a mixed season so far, with a mixture of wins and defeats. Their most recent results earlier in October have been defeats to Stirling University and Renfrew, with a win against Westdyke in between.
Last weekend our ‘Burgh girls took part in what might well have been the most dramatic game of the season. From 2-0 down, we clawed our way back into the game and by the middle of the second half we found ourselves 4-2 up, with all 4 goals being scored by Rebecca Scobie, a feat for which she earned the SM Media Championship Player of the Week. Alas, Renfrew scored 2 late goals to equalise and the game finished 4-4: what an epic game! Both teams had to cope with the fierce wind that had whipped up that gave very challenging conditions. However, this Sunday’s forecast looks much more benign so we are hopeful of a pleasant autumn afternoon when all the players can play their best football.
